What is minimalism?

1. Minimalism is about consciousness. It is about taking a step back, looking at your life and being conscious about it, conscious about the way you live and the choices you make.

2. Minimalism is about freedom. Minimalism is about subtracting all that which is not necessary to leave more room for the essence of your life, that what makes you happy and what you are passionate about. It takes away the excess to leave you with only what you need to make you free.

3. Minimalism is a practical philosophy. Here is a practical thing to get you started, no matter where you are: Ask the question “Do I really need this? Is this adding value to my life?”. “This” can be an item, a situation, a relationship, a belief, anything! You are free to question everything! This way minimalism has an impact on your whole life.

This looks different for everybody because everyone’s situation is unique. What makes me happy doesn’t necessarily make you happy and so there are many different and unique flavors to minimalism.
